Earth Day

Earth Day is held on the 22nd of April. It marks a anniversary for when people do events to help the environment get better. The creator who came up with the idea of Earth Day was Gaylord Nelson. The first Earth Day was in 1970. The Earth Day flag was created by John McConnell.

Descriptive Writing Practise

We were practising how to describe something. What do you think of the story we made up about kiwis?

The NZ Kiwi

Kiwis have dark brown fur.
They have two little beady black eyes.
The kiwi has a long pointy beak like Pinocchio.
Its small furry wings sit right beneath their necks.
They have little wings like little baby chickens.
No matter how hard they flap their wings they can't fly!

Cooking and Gardening.

After morning tea Room 12 went to cooking and gardening. The pink tags went to cooking and the blue tags went to gardening. Cooking was the best part of the day. We started off by cutting the onions and parsley.

In the kitchen we washed some vegetables. I think it was spinach. When I finished I had to put it in the sink and add a little bit of water and swish the vegetables around.

This time we made fried rice and omelettes. We like cooking and gardening, it is really fun because we get to cut vegetables, cook and work in the garden.

Pink shirt day

Two weeks ago on a Friday it was pink shirt day.  Dawson school had a pink shirt day parade in the school hall. We all have to dress in pink to say that bullying is not okay. We looked to see who was in the most pink. Whoever had the most pink won prizes. We liked Tristan's little pink hula skirt.

The Bismarck

The Bismarck was a German battleship. It was one of only two full sized war ships.

It launched during world war 2 in August 1940. The ship was only working for eight months.

The Bismarck was one of the largest and strongest battleships in the world.

I Wonder What Happend To The Animals During The War?

Animals do not remember memories but the people who love there pets do. Those who were ordinary people usually kept there pets for company.

Pets were in a lot of accidents during the war. The people who saved the pets took them to animal welfare charities. Some animals were lost and ended up as strays. Some animals went to people for company and safety.

One story talks about a dog who got saved by a person who loved his pet when during the war the building that the dog was in got bombed.
