Leeches

Leeches are creepy blood suckers they suck blood from animals and people. It has two suckers, there is one behind and one in the front. So if it is stuck on someone or some animal it can suck your blood. A leech can even drink blood bigger than its body.

Oil and Water

Oil spills into the water and when oil hits water animals under the sea are in danger. Oil can be caused by a tanker full of oil smashing into a ship.

The oil can kill seals by poisoning their food. Oil can kill dolphins by blocking their blow holes, this makes it hard for the dolphins to get air above the water so they can breathe under water. Oil can kill birds too, if oil hits the birds feathers the bird will fall and be freezing cold on the floor.

Thanks-Giving Day

Canada's first thanksgiving was in 1617 and carried on for centuries. The United States first Thanksgiving was in 1619 and is still on today. First the families pray to God or Jesus for a few seconds or they talk about all that they are thankful for in their lives. Then they eat turkey and spend time together. The United States Thanksgiving is on the fourth of  November  and Canada is on the second of October.

Descriptive Writing Practise

We were practising how to describe something. What do you think of the story we made up about kiwis?

The NZ Kiwi

Kiwis have dark brown fur.
They have two little beady black eyes.
The kiwi has a long pointy beak like Pinocchio.
Its small furry wings sit right beneath their necks.
They have little wings like little baby chickens.
No matter how hard they flap their wings they can't fly!

Swimming

Hi our names are Mele, Jessica and Seluvaia. Today we are talking about swimming. At Dawson school Room 12 have been taking swimming lessons at Otara pools. The coaches were Michael, Sarah and Steve.

Next week is our last day at swimming we really want to still go there and take swimming lessons from the coaches, they are really good at their jobs and very good swimmers. We go to swimming every Friday in the afternoon at 1.00 pm. First we have our lunch before we go swimming because we have had a whole hour of school work then we have to go swimming.

One day we learnt about water safety and wearing a life jacket. The coaches taught us how to do a pin drop on a big boat.

Swimming

Hi our names are Jessica, Mele, Seluvaia and Maria. We are talking about swimming. Room 12 have been taking swimming lessons at the community swimming pool. Our coaches were amazing swimmers they taught us everything they know about how to be safe in the water.

Swimming was a bit fun but we struggled with breathing underwater, we don't need to breath underwater because that will be weird and hard to do. The coaches names were Sarah, Steve and Michael.

The Bismarck

The Bismarck was a German battleship. It was one of only two full sized war ships.

It launched during world war 2 in August 1940. The ship was only working for eight months.

The Bismarck was one of the largest and strongest battleships in the world.

Assembly-vet Came Over

When the Auckland vet came to the assembly they were talking about animals. They were really talking about dogs, they wanted us kids to know that dogs are almost like people. Then the vet people told the teachers they could choose two kids in each class to come up to the stage. After that  the vet people said do you want  to watch a video, us kids said YES it mostly said "if a dogs on it's own leave it alone." If you want to touch a dog you need to ask the owner before touching the dog.
