Our Time at Tupu Library

Yesterday Room 12 walked down to Tupu Library. Once we arrived we walked on in and sat on the mat. We waited for awhile, when our tutors came in half the class on one side of the class was playing with rakau sticks and the other side of the class was playing with the maori club which is also known as a patu. They told us a little maori story. 

The group that was playing with the patu had  a princess called princess who was played by Tiaana and the rakau group had a d prince played by Scott. Prince Scott was very hungry so he went down to the te awa (river) and got some ika (fish) from the the awa. Princess Tiaana came into the te awa they couldn't catch any ika because they forgot their patu so they had to jump in the the awa.

Once Prince Scott saw Princess Tiaana and they fell in love. So Prince Scott took Princess Tiaana to go and meet his family. One of Princess Tiaana's friends saw them so she ran back and said to the leader the other tribe has taken our princess. They were very mad, they trained the tribe up to get their princess back. There was going to be a war!

Facts About Bees

Bees are flying insects, they are related to wasps and ants. Bees use nectar, water and pollen to make honey. Also bees have an exo-skeleton and they add an enzyme to the nectar. An enzyme is a chemical made inside living things. Bees carry pollen in pollen sacks. When people have sore throats the honey helps your throat feel better and also honey kills bacteria. Bees are cool because they make sweet sweet honey.

Soccer

Last Week Room 12 played soccer with counties for the last time. Now it is Room 11's turn for the next three weeks. We practised using our feet and legs to kick the ball. We learned to pass the ball with our feet. We are getting really good at it!

Swimming Pools

Room 12 are going to the swimming pools at Otara Pools next week on Friday. The bus is going to take us to swimming.We need to remember our togs, towel, a hair brush and hair tie for people with long hair and a plastic bag. We are going to have a fun time at the swimming pools.

School Councillor

I am the new councillor for Room 12 and I am in charge of the Year 1 and 2 kids. My responsibility is to look after the school, show respect, be a good role model, be honest and to be responsible.

I have meetings with my class and then I meet with the other student councillors and Mrs Funaki.

Senior Assembly

This afternoon we had our senior assembly. Room 17 shared some poems, sung some songs in Maori and did a cool dance. At the end they had a quiz and the kids could win Easter eggs. The teachers had a question too and Kryzlah helped Miss Zeier win an Easter egg! After it was finished they gave out the class cup and the winners were... Room 12!!!

Coming Up is... Dawson School's New Wetland

Mr Pattison is making a wetland at our school on the field. In our new wetland there will be ducks, fish, plants and shelter for the fish so they can't get eaten by the birds like seagulls. At the moment we are just digging the rocks out so we can put the pond and plants in.  We took  photos of the pond with Sivihiva, Owen and Logan.

The Return of the Dinosaur

Holy cow! A giant big dinosaur right in the middle of the park. It is giant like a titan. It has razor sharp teeth and there are nearly one hundred of them. I was so scared that I fell on the ground and died!

The Awesome Chicks.

On Tuesday we went to science. In science class we got to look after the smelly chicks. They were as fast as a flash, their beaks were as sharp as a knife, they were so naughty that we thought nobody could handle them. Luckily we could hold them. Their skin was so fluffy. We were taking pictures of the chicks, tadpoles and worms. Mr Pattison asked us questions about the chicks and the worms.

FMS

On Friday we did P.E. up in the hall. Room 12 were learning how to do a chest pass with our partners. We then played a game where we had to chest pass the ball to other people without dropping it. We were super good at playing that game. Coach Paris will be back next Friday. I wonder what we are going to learn next.

Literacy Week Party

Today we went to Room 10 for games and singing. We danced and we would freeze if the music stopped. There were prizes for the winner. Do you know who won? It was someone from our class. Take a guess in the comments below.

Book Parade

Today was the last day of Literacy Week. Lots of kids were dressed up as book characters. One person was dressed up as Willy Wonka and another one was Bob the Builder. There were heaps of different characters from books and movies. Even the teachers were dressed up and they were dancing to Gangnam Style. All the kids were dancing in the parade Look at the people from our cool class!
