Kiwi Kick

On Friday we did AFL Kiwikick. AFL means Australian Football League. We learned how to drop punt the ball to our partner our leaders were James, Jamie, Jono and Nick. Room11 joined us too. We learnt 4 steps. 1. Laces away from faces. 2. Drop the ball to your foot. 3. X's up and down. 4. Pointy toes facing towards your partner.

The Talent Quest

In Dawson Primary School we are having a talent quest on September the 18th 2014. People will come and compete to show their talent. Heaps of parents come to watch their children. There are three judges .There names are  are Mrs Harding, Mrs Ellis and Mrs Samuel. There are three prizes up for grabs. My friend  Orlando  is going go to sing (count on me) by Bruno mars.

Miss Karaka's Birthday

Today is Miss Karaka's birthday. We have been working hard and blowing up balloons and gave her flowers that Miss Zeier bought. Rm 17 have seen all the decerations that some of the Rm 12 kids have done. The room 12 students are going to sing happy birthday to her. We hope you liked our decorations Miss Karaka.

Origami Cranes

In Room 12 for the art exhibition we are doing Origami Cranes. The crane is a  symbol of long-life. It comes from Japan and people believe that cranes can live for a thousand years. The crane is a symbol of happiness, good luck and peace.

The Siberian Tiger .

Classification

They are mammals and are warm blooded. They are one of the subspeices. They are similar to a cat but bigger.

Physical description

Their whole body is covered with fur, which is orange with black stripes and some white so they can blend in the snow.

Habitat

The siberian tiger lives in snowy lands or Eastern Asia and in the Russia.

Movement

They run on four legs, they have the power to be fast to catch their prey.

Diet

They eat wild cattle and deers, wild pigs, water buffalo, antelopes, sloths, bears, dogs and leopards.
They are carnivores.

Other interesting facts

The Siberian tiger  is the biggest cat. It has thick fur to keep it warm. It's heavy. Its body hangs close to the ground.

The Chicken Coop

Life Jackets

At swimming we were learning about how to stay safe at sea and what to do if we fall in the water. We were practising what to do wearing a life jacket. Make sure you stay in a group so you can stay warm. What else can you do to keep safe in the water?

James and the Giant Peach

Every afternoon we read our chapter book James and the Giant Peach. In the story the characters names are Aunt Spiker, Aunt Sponge and the main character is James . 

We've been reading about  how the peach got bigger and bigger, and we've been reading about how Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge keep on calling James bad things like filthy, nuisance, miserable creature and disgusting little beast. They are as horrible as a troll and as a cruel as a nasty creature.

Wooden Sticks

There are wooden sticks in the garden that say something in Maori. If you speak Maori you may know what the words mean. If you do not you may like to take a guess. See if you can figure them all out. These are found on the bark near Room 19. Hint - They are our school values!

Constable Painter

One day Constable Painter came in to our class. She was telling us how to keep safe, she taught us a game  it is kind of like noughts and crosses. Constable Painter asked us questions about our rights and responsibilities which was a part of the game.

Rights are things that people say and do. The things you need like having the right to learn or have food and clothing.

Responsibilities are the things that are your decisions and the things that you say and do.Can you give us an example of a right or responsibility?

Mrs Tupou, Mrs Schuster

This week we have Ms Tupou, Ms Schuster  learning  to be teachers in Room 12. The first time they came in Room 12 is on the 7th of April 2014. They are so nice they help us with our work. Room12 is going to be very sad when they leave on Friday. By Dontay, Logan and Viliami

The Outside Classroom On The Field

In the outside classroom there is bark and plants, the classroom is made out of wood,it is a rectangular shape and it has logs in it that you can sit on. You can sit down and relax.

Senior Assembly

This afternoon we had our senior assembly. Room 17 shared some poems, sung some songs in Maori and did a cool dance. At the end they had a quiz and the kids could win Easter eggs. The teachers had a question too and Kryzlah helped Miss Zeier win an Easter egg! After it was finished they gave out the class cup and the winners were... Room 12!!!

Zac Power Test Drive- Zac's Space Race

The Zac Power Test Drive -  Zac's Space Race is my favourite book because in this book Zac becomes a spy and his team is called GIB. The bad team is called BIG. Zac's team goes in speed boats and submarines and his cousin is an agent named Leon. He's 14 years old and Zac is 12 years old. When he's in space he wears a space coat so he can float. His family are spies too. There are other Zac Power books. Have you read them? Check them out if you go to the library!

Coming Up is... Dawson School's New Wetland

Mr Pattison is making a wetland at our school on the field. In our new wetland there will be ducks, fish, plants and shelter for the fish so they can't get eaten by the birds like seagulls. At the moment we are just digging the rocks out so we can put the pond and plants in.  We took  photos of the pond with Sivihiva, Owen and Logan.  

Room 12 are in charge of the fish and what they eat.

The Humungous Dinosaur

OMG ! I hate my life. Behind me is a large terrifying dinosaur. It has sharp teeth as big as a sabretooths. Ahhhhh! A dinosaur is chasing me, it's as fast as a t-rex. I'm scared. Sweat is on the side of my head. Luckily someone came with a bag of stuff. I started throwing the stuff. I fainted! All I could see was pitch black.

The Awesome Music Crew

 On Wednesday mornings Mrs Bird has music practise with the year four, five and six kids. Today Mrs Bird said that there would be a ukulele practise at two o'clock. The people who play ukulele are going to concerts throughout the year. They will go on a big bus and sometimes with Mrs Harding and Mrs Funaki go too.

The Disgusting Worms

In science we were learning about worms and how long they are. We were trying to find the head and the tail. The worms have lines that are called segments, segments are parts of their bodies. If you cut along one of the worm's lines it won't die because it still grows but if you cut the stomach it will die. We were taking pictures and videos. 

When Mr Pattison brought out the chicks we had to answer questions to get the chicks first. We went in groups and hopped in a circle to look at them.

Poetry Time

Funny Fred is the most unusual pet you'll ever see. We created our own unusual Funny Fred. Our pet had a monkey head, elephant ears, a giraffes neck, zebra legs and a dinosaurs body.  Have a look at Papehia and Dontay's creations.
