The Talent Quest

Here at Dawson we are going to have a talent quest on the 18th of September. Kids from our school compete against the best singers and dancers in our school. There are three prizes up for grabs.Some teachers will be chosen to be judges it will be the hardest decision they have ever made.

Graham Braddock

Last Friday we worked with Graham Braddock. Graham Braddock is an outstanding artist. We were learning to draw Browns Bay Shop. There were lots of features in the picture like a dog, lady, wheel barrow and a man just to name a few. We made a few mistakes but we finished at  the end.

Orienteering

At the end of last term we learned to follow maps and find the place we were going. We had a little practise first. Mrs Robinson handed each person in the group a map. On the  map it showed classes, fences, poles, gardens, trees, and the field. We had to orienteer around the school. You can use orienteering if your lost and use a map to find out where you are. We had so much fun and we learnt how to navigate and use a key. Have you ever tried orienteering?

Grizzly Bears

Did you know grizzly bears are a North American subspecies. Most female grizzlies weigh at lest 130 - 200 kg. These kind of bears are carnivores, this mens they eat other animals. They can run up to 30 miles per hour. They live up to 20 - 30 years. Grizzly bears are blood thirsty animals. I think they are cool creatures...

Soccer

This is us practising evading with the soccer coaches in the hall. We had to try and lose our partner and they had to follow you and stay as close as they can.

Life Jackets

At swimming we were learning about how to stay safe at sea and what to do if we fall in the water. We were practising what to do wearing a life jacket. Make sure you stay in a group so you can stay warm. What else can you do to keep safe in the water?

Our Asemmbly

Last week our class had our assembly. We showed our tellagami app, we shared dome of our dinosaur stories and pictures, then we sang a song called Toru Manu Iti which is Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. Then we showed the senior school a new jump jam hip  hop song called Clumsy. We weren't able to get any photos of our assembly. We hope everyone enjoyed it. 
We were very proud of ourselves.

Our Fantastic Holiday

During the school holidays each person in room 12 had a fantastic time staying with their family or friends. In the holidays some people went all over the country and some stayed right where they live. Other people went places like Rainbows End, the pools, the zoo or went to other countries. We hope everyone had a great holiday.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC is when we remember the people that fought in the war. ANZAC stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corps. The 

ANZACs first landed on the beaches of Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey on the 25 of April 1915. 

This is a public holiday for us to remember the people that died in the war.

The ANZACs had to stay in Gallipoli for 9 months, more than 11,000 ANZACs died during the fight in Gallipoli Peninsula. Gallipoli Peninsula is now known as the ANZAC cove.

Mrs Tupou, Mrs Schuster

This week we have Ms Tupou, Ms Schuster  learning  to be teachers in Room 12. The first time they came in Room 12 is on the 7th of April 2014. They are so nice they help us with our work. Room12 is going to be very sad when they leave on Friday. By Dontay, Logan and Viliami

Fabulous Scooters

Playing in the sand pit is fun but you know what's even better? The fabulous amazing scooters. Here at Dawson we have super speedy scooters. Each class can't wait till it's their turn on the speedy scooters. Room 13 have been the first to test the scooters, I wonder which class will be next? I wonder which class will get this amazing chance to play on the scooters !!

A few days ago Room 12 were doing art circles and Papehia was the first one to finish.When the black circles are finished they have to be coloured with pastels and then the kids can move to the next step. Here Viliami is putting red dye around the circles.

Senior Assembly

This afternoon we had our senior assembly. Room 17 shared some poems, sung some songs in Maori and did a cool dance. At the end they had a quiz and the kids could win Easter eggs. The teachers had a question too and Kryzlah helped Miss Zeier win an Easter egg! After it was finished they gave out the class cup and the winners were... Room 12!!!

The Dinosaur Of Death

OMG! There is a dinosaur chasing me. We are all going to die. It's like nothing I've seen before. Holy cow the city has been torn into two. Its teeth are covered with blood and they're razor sharp. There are skeletons all over the place. I am totally freaked out. I'm out of breath. I'm falling over. I see black.

The Awesome Music Crew

 On Wednesday mornings Mrs Bird has music practise with the year four, five and six kids. Today Mrs Bird said that there would be a ukulele practise at two o'clock. The people who play ukulele are going to concerts throughout the year. They will go on a big bus and sometimes with Mrs Harding and Mrs Funaki go too.

The Smelly Chicks

On Tuesday we went to science. At science we got to see the smelly naughty chicks.

The chicks were extremely fast, they were as fast as a Cheetah. They had feathers that were as fluffy as a pillow and there beaks were as sharp as a dagger. Sometimes we stayed away from the chicks because we were scared that they would bite us. There were 5 birds and they were all different colours. Sometimes they pecked us.

Basketball
